Mother Goose Investigations – Hickory Dickory Dock – Sense Or Nonsense?

When folklorists look at a rhyme, they may look for something that isn’t there. Take Hickory Dickory Dock-does it mean 8, 9 and 10 like the folklorists say? Would a Shepherd who used this system of writing have a long case grandfather clock?

On the Arab’s Plane

On the plane from Tel Aviv to Madrid, rerouted over Turkey, there was an Arab couple sitting next to me, to my left, the isle to my right, she had the window, her husband next seat over-talking away as if they were on their honeymoon-talking to those behind them, across from me, to a couple on the other side of the plane, talking away as if they owned the plane, as well as my seat. He, the male husband, surprisingly looked broad and handsome, and somewhat neat, even apologetic, but not enough to stop his talking.

Five Poems

The walls of the houses are full of darkness in Gaza, but still they tremble, those behind the walls know, at anytime, they may be woken, with moving shadows and sounds of echoes-war is at its door, across Gaza. All the young shake the dice of death, some old wolves will send the Israeli Army whatever they have left, and America will look cross-eyed: the Reaper of Death….

Everyone knows what little boys and little girls are made of-boys are made from slugs and snails, girls from sugar and spice. But the boy things have nice touches, and some spices are vile. There are many mentions of the poem in pop culture.
